A newly designed mixture, the 50/50 dual gives a reduced maintenance for sites with difficult access. This mixture is also good to use on higher fertility soils, however reducing the grass component from a standard 80/20 mix it gives the wildflowers more chance of successful establishment.

Year 1 – allow annuals to flower then cut back and remove clippings, in order to help control grass. Some may give a second flush of flowering. Cut back in Autumn after flowering and seed dispersal, and remove clippings

The mix is a blend of native annual and perennial wildflower seeds, with 50% grass seed. Follow 50/50 guidelines.

Ideal for use in areas where impact is required in the first growing season, the Cornfield Annual species including Poppy, Chamomile, Cornflower, Marigold and Corncockle will come through to give that burst of colour, while the slower-growing perennial species such as Musk Mallow, Lady’s Bedstraw, Teasel and Devil’s-Bit Scabious are all establishing, ready to really spring forth from Year 2 onwards. The annuals will normally only flower during Year 1, but you may still get a few appearing in subsequent years, from self-dispersal.

Designed to be used in sunnier spots, the diverse range of species within this mixture means it can be suitable for a range of environmental and soil conditions. If your selected environment has difficult elements including heavy shade or sitting water, we’d suggest thinking about one of our mixes which better suits your specific scenario

As with all wildflower areas, the best results come from well prepared areas and good maintenance for the developing sward, as and when necessary. One very important tip for Wildflower areas is to make sure that the sward is cut back after seed heads have dispersed in late-Summer or Autumn and always remove the cuttings.

A species-rich mixture of annuals and perennial species ideal for use where first year flowering is required.

Species include:

Corncockle, Field Poppy, Cornflower, Teasel, Wild Marjoram, Common Knapweed

Wildflower Site Preparation

The site should be weed free. Annual weeds should be controlled by mechanical means or by the use of contact based herbicide. Perennial weeds, for example docks thistle, nettles and couch grass can be dealt with using a translocated herbicide such as Round-Up. Cultivate to achieve a fine seed bed, sow seed mix and then roll to ensure firmness. The best results are obtained when there is good contact between the soil and the seeds.

Sowing Times

Sowing can best be achieved by mixing the seed with dry sand, dry sifted topsoil or sawdust and evenly broadcast. It is important that the seed is in contact with moisture in the soil so the seedbed should be lightly raked and then rolled.
